Re: Anyone using the Spry waterproof drone?
This might work to solve the baro issue. Not sure if the Spry uses a standard sensor though.
https://www.invensense.com/news-medi...essure-sensor/
Please let us know if you where successful.
Btw. there are rumors that there might be a Spry with 3axis gimbal around in early 2020...

Re: Anyone using the Spry waterproof drone?
One more thought if you try to solve this.
You think it's possibly related to the baro module getting to much pressure from the heated up interior of the drone.
How about glueing a rigid cover over the baro module from the inside, so that it's in its own small compartment?
As this would have very little volume there would be also very little pressure built up in it.
As its a small cover on the inside it should not be difficult to try....

I have to replace most of the electronics on the crashed one, and I'm thinking of going with a pixracer hardware using PX 4 opensource software on Qgroundcontrol. Swellpro seem to have it pretty wrapped up with proprietary gear, which makes it pretty frustrating as the customer service is just ... well bad.
The great thing and the reason why I got the Spry is that return to home is return to boat/rc controller, so low battery or loss of single alarms and it heads backs to you, all other drones as far as I can make out, head back to where they took off, not good if you your sailing and your drone flys back to where you were... probably never to be seen again.
So Im hoping with the non proprietary opensource software that you get full access to I might be able to replicate what the Spry can do.
Thanks for help with the baro, I think pixhawk use Invensense sensors so this might work.
All the best

Only if yoi have a spare crew to operate it, otherwise too distracting.

That will be a lot of drowned DJI drones.
I can not see full auto landing on a rolling sailboat with lots of stays....
Hopefully DJI will come up with a waterproof drone eventually.

So don't use auto return, you don't have to, but it's great that you can set it up to track ahead of you through the reef and have the readout at the helm without the need to continually steer it, until you need to recover that is....

Re: Anyone using the Spry waterproof drone?
I’d consider the Splashdrone 3 before the Spry. Longer flight time, perhaps better reliability as it’s been around longer. The 3 was an improvement ove4vthe previous model. Some poor reviews, but as always the worst scenarios are always on YouTube and forums!

To māke flyover look āhead viable longer flight times are needed. Until battery tech catches up, where are the drone developments using gas engines to gain more flight time?

Re: Anyone using the Spry waterproof drone?
My Mavic was donated to Psodieon about 6 months after its first release and a month into owning my current boat. Previously I'd used when motorcycling off road.
On the boat I was using to film a regatta, and get images of my boat with sails out from different angles. I keep a blog, for family and friends, and my personal memories, and a drone is very useful for that.
I found the Mavic 1 to be great, but 4k video was limited to 50mbps bit rate. This has been fixed with the Mavic 2, along with better sensors and a slightly longer flight time.
The problem as ever is landing such a thing on a small moving boat. That is one area where the Spry looked to be great. No need to mess around turning sensors off and tentatively bring it back onboard, just drop it in the water somewhere close by for retrieval.
That seems to be the only thing it has got going for it though.
by the way my Mavic still powered on and tried to start up after 2 weeks at the bottom of the sea. Unfortunately the motors were shot and the magnesium parts had been eaten away.

Re: Anyone using the Spry waterproof drone?
There are a number of countries where drones burning fossile fuels are actually banned for general public use.
Germany is one of them.
Probably that's part of why there are hardly any around.

That must have really annoyed the RX crowd. I remember as a kid my dad having a RC plane, helicopter and cars. All used combustion engines.

Re: Anyone using the Spry waterproof drone?
You can fly them in designated model flying areas only. Some folks don't care about that, but they will get fined if cought.
Actually from a noise pollution aspect that makes sense. They are much louder than the already loud electric drones...
