Re: Anyone know a surveyor in Tortola, BVI?

Geoff wants $1,200 for 43 Bene monohull... ugh

[edit]
Anyone in the future looking for comparisons... Geoff wants $1,200 for a 43-foot Beneteau Oceanis 43 in Tortola, BVI, in June 2016.

It'll be interesting to see how pricing goes in the next 6, 12, 24, 48 months.

Geoff Williams did surveys of my boat both when I got it from Sunsail and when I sold it this month and he was very good for whoever he was working for each time.

I'm sure he's excellent... but $1,200 for a 43-foot monohull? C'mon... I think it's a little greedy.

I'm all for getting compensated for your work and for the amount of time you're putting in and for the amount of money you're saving/making the customer/client. But at this juncture... how many countless hours do I have to work for the same $1,200 that I'll pay him

The survey you get from this fellow is not the piece of rubbish you get from many others. When he did the phaseout survey at the end of my boat's Sunsail contract he found many thousands of dollars of work for Sunsail to do. That is a return of many hundred percent on a thousand dollar survey...

Very good point!! Actually, an excellent point! The return was definitely worth the investment. And I couldn't agree more. It's hard to dish out $1200 for a survey, but if the return is worth it, then by all means. I guess at the end of the day... it's a gamble.
