Wondering what the anchorage in Richardson bay is like?

Generally full of derelict boats but it's my understanding that it is slowly being cleaned up.

Soft mud, holds well. You can park your dinghy at Schoonmacher Cove Marina free.

When we lived in SF we would go to Richardson Bay frequently and anchor on the east side of the channel, across from the Yacht Club.

The area can be rolly at times from the ferrys, but the bottom has good holding in mud.

If you have a YC membership, you can usually bring your dinghy into the Sausalito YC dock and leave it there for touring...

As far as living aboard in Richardson's Bay, that has long been a hotly contested issue.... There are numerous articles in Latitude 38 discussing this:

No moorings, very shallow outside the channel during low tide

The further south you anchor the deeper it gets. They have these things called charts. Just kiddin', really. There are a few really shallow spots further north just east of the channel. They are where a lot of boats are anchored and you think it'd be just great to tuck in there. NOT! Also be aware that the current changes so you really have to know how to anchor properly. Also be aware of spring tides and depths. Buy Kimball Livingston's Sailing The Bay, a great read, and fun, too.
