Eldredge's (and a tide and
current app) are critical up this way. Tidal ranges and associated currents are very different from the Chesapeake. Traveling from the tip of
Long Island to the Cape Cod Canal is a piece of cake if you time your currents well and a slog if you don't. Once you get north of the Canal you'll see 6-9 foot ranges which impact where you can go and how fast you get there.
