It is not a race for the faint of heart. Not only did they cross the Gulfstream, but they did it on the heels of a tropical storm...Can't wait to hear the first hand accounts of the race conditions.

One more thing.
With racers, it's about winning regardless of the conditions.
It's the competition for the hard core racers and they will race as long as the race isn't called. (or the boat breaks)

Re: Annapolis to Bermuda Race Starts at 1100 Today
The Pogo 50 was the first to finish, more than 50 miles ahead of the rest of the fleet.
The following boats are close to finishing, probably near this order:
Navy 44 MkII Tenancious
J/124
Custom 48 Pursuit
Farr Pilothouse 50
Pogo 12.5
The J/111 and J/110 are both leading their classes. Some of the other Navy 44s will finish near the top on elapsed time.

Navy 44 Tenacious and J/124 Jane Says are separated by about 1 mile.
The J/124 has made up a mile or so in the last couple hours and is leading (is closer to the finish line I should say) Tenacious at this time.
They have about 36 miles to go.
It could be a very close boat for boat finish with these two......after over 700 miles of racing

Re: Annapolis to Bermuda Race Starts at 1100 Today
They all need to come about onto an ugly port tack into Hamilton...plenty of room for catching up ground with some good tactics... It looks as if a J/42 will come in second in PHRF 1 behind Tenacious. The J boats all did great, as usual.
Correction: The Pogo 12.5 is below the rhumb line, may not have to tack, and could pass quite a few to finish.

That particular J/42 Allegiant got a rating slightly slower than the Navy 44's for some reason in this race so all he has to do is stay close.
Other sites (New England PHRF) show the J/42 with a faster rating.
Not sure what the difference was here.

Re: Annapolis to Bermuda Race Starts at 1100 Today
Seems more like the usual weekly around-the-buoys race than an across-the-ocean race at this time. Considering the finish line is on the east side of the island boats close to the port layline may be on to something.

Re: Annapolis to Bermuda Race Starts at 1100 Today
It is amazing, after 750 nautical miles, that they are grouped fairly close together. Tenacious and the J124 Jane Says are within a mile of each other with 26 miles to finish, different classes though...
They have to round the shoals to the north of Bermuda, Kitchen Shoals and Mills Breaker to starboard. I bet some will be very close to the markers.

Re: Annapolis to Bermuda Race Starts at 1100 Today
The J/124 is .2 tenths of a mile behind Tenacious now. (according to the tracker)
They were going faster but appear to have slowed as they got closer possibly due to dirty air from Tenacious.
Too bad we don't have video .......
Also if you didn't watch this short video, you may want to.
There are some nice shots of a few of the boats, and they are some awesome looking boats.

Re: Annapolis to Bermuda Race Starts at 1100 Today
We passed them just before dawn as we sailed up Chesapeake Bay on Sunday the 5th. It was quite a sight on radar to see a cluster of some 20+ sailboats bearing down on us in the night.

Re: Annapolis to Bermuda Race Starts at 1100 Today
A few more details on the A2B Facebook page.
Lots of stuff hung out to dry......
Looks like Iris the Tartan 34C did cross the Gulf Stream going out and back but returned to their home Marina due to some equipment failures etc

Why does the results page on Yachtscoring.com only show times to the mouth of the Chesapeake? Are the actual results posted anywhere?
