Annapolis School of Seamanship-Electrical

Ok I have several books on basic boat electrical systems but being a bit slow I am not grasping some things by just reading. So I am thinking of taking a hands on course to learn. Does anyone have any experience with the Annapolis School of Seamanship? They offer a Marine Electrical System Basic course.

Re: Annapolis School of Seamanship-Electrical

I took a couple of their other courses earlier this year, but saw the simulators and etc. that they use for their electrical and electronics courses. They appeared to be comprehensive training / education aids. While I cannot speak about the instructor(s) that teach the electrical course, the instructor I had for my courses was experienced, very knowledgeable and, in my opinion, a good instructor.

The school itself is in an old house in Eastport, MD that is adequate facility for their purposes but is certainly nothing fancy. The school itself takes a little finding if you are not familiar with Eastport itself. There is a small kitchen in the house but not much more for lunch & breaks. However, there are a number of restaurants within a long walk / short drive.

Overall I was pleased with the experience and plan to take one of their diesel engine courses in the near future and had thought about the electrical course too. If you do take the electrical course I would appreciate hearing your thoughts on it as I would also be interested in taking that course.

If you anchor in Back Creek the school is a three minute dinghy ride (to the sixth street public dinghy dock) and then a two minute walk.

Two blocks from Bakers & Co, an amazing coffee shop in Eastport.

I’ve never taken one of their classes but I don’t know anyone who has who didn’t think it was good.

I took their diesel courses, and thought those very good. I'd expect their electrical courses are similar in depth and quality of teaching, but that's just a surmise.
