Alternator

I suspect that my second alternator ,used to charge 24vdc house bank ,is not charging. Can I check the alternator's output with a multimeter ?

Yes.

With all charging sources disconnected or turned off, measure the battery voltage. Now run the second alternator and measure the voltage again. There should be around a 2+V increase if the alternator is working OK.

So no charging sources - about 24V to 26V.
With the 2nd alternator running - about 28V.
