@gdwhiting87,

Welcome aboard CF.

You're doing fine.

You can write "@ avatar name" at the beginning of a paragraph, to address a particular poster, like I just did, and then continue. If you're using a computer, all the messages show at the bottom of the page at "Topic Review", so that you can go back and pick up the names and what they wrote. Sorry, I don't access by phone, so i don't know if you can see it there with one.

Congratulations on your new-to-you boat. You can ask questions in this thread or start new threads with your questions.

Enjoy your stay.

Ann

Re: Absolutely New to Sailing Pls help

Atlantic City is going to be very hard to find a reasonable priced slip and it’s not an area where I would want to get my early experience. I woulduggest that you look for dockage in the Lanoka harbor to forked river area. You should be able to find an affordable slip and the bay is a whole lot more forgiving for newbie sailers.

As everyone says, take a class. American Sailing Association has many affiliated and competent instructors. So do other companies. Browse near you on the net. Most take the ASA-101 to get going. It’s a 2-day class all on the water. You get a text book ahead of time. It teaches you all the basics. Have fun.

Order a copy of Chapman’s Piloting and Seamanship on Amazon. New about $65 or you can order used ones ( just as good) for a few dollars. It has about everything you could ever want to know about boating. Read it and go out and put the information to use.
