A Sailing Trip

just wanted to know what would be the best boat to travel from the East coast to Angra do Heroísmo, stopping there to refill, and then to portugal. With enough space to house a 8-10 man crew.

I'm thankful for your advice and concerns, but i already know as much as the risk factor is concerned in all this.

This would be the perfect boat. Maybe slightly cramped but should be enough room for 8-10 and enough fuel to make it to the Azores.

I plan on leaving from the east coast from Massachusetts and heading towards angra do heroiso and stopping there to refill for the journey, and then heading to europe from there. Then from europe i plan on going to Alexandria, Egypt and from there heading down the nile to Cairo, Egypt which will be my final destination. Anyone mind helping me figure out the best and safest route, best boat options, and anything else i'll need like equipment, any legal papers etc for the journey? Thanks!

And by legal papers i meant, Would i need any papers or applications to sail outside the U.S. to europe? and stuff like that.

You'll need to train up to RYA Coastal skipper at the least... or have one of your 8 people to do it..
I'd overland from Alex to Cairo.. highly unlikely you'll be able to sail up there.. why not do as far as Cyprus and fly over from there.. either way you get the flavour of the Med as you Island hop your way across from Spain..
You'll need Passports,
Bill of sale for proof of ownership,
Registration documents,
Insurance for the boat,
and keep ALL receipts from marina's and port officials with the above papers and ready to produce.
Visa's I don't know as I've never needed one...
Equipment etc you will learn about on your RYA course... don't try running before you can walk.

No, based on the questions you are asking, you very obviously do NOT!

Just asking what is the "best boat" indicates that you don't understand the issues involved.

No offense, but once again, do your research. Go get the book that was suggested and READ IT! Then maybe you can quit asking dumb questions.

Well that year will be expensive and busy...
7 days live aboard Competent Crew course.. how to tie knots and not get in the way... and other basic principles..
7 days live aboard Day Skipper course... basic coastal navigation and seamanship skills enabling you to competently manage boat and crew..
7 days live aboard Coastal Skipper course... advanced coastal navigation/seamanship skills for long distance coastal and offshore sailing..
Should know your arse from your elbow after that.. don't forget to take the language tapes with you... might keep you from chasing the compass..
