A Colin Archer Around the World

Grab some popcorn and enjoy a 2-hour movie of the ex-Norwegian Redningskoite, (rescue boat,) "Sandefjord".
At ~47' on deck, by about 15>16' beam, (specs vary,) and ~7' draft, and displacement almost beyond belief at ~35 tons, (gulp,) she takes her crew around the world in '65>'66.
This is the same boat that prior to WWII was caught in a hurricane and pitch-poled, (end over-end,) but only suffered minor damage.

Thanks for posting this. I watched this last night with my little family. A good time was had by all. Sandefjord is a beautiful boat, but I supposed I am a little biased.

^ Thanks for the response.
I kind of figured that after a couple of weeks without a comment that very few on this forum would think an old Colin Archer to be of much use for a long cruise.
The nay-sayers have little idea of just how good they are for such a voyage.
You litterly can load tons of stuff aboard without much effect.
In a decent breeze they'll roll along in comfort at good speed.
There are many instances when those boats were in service that they would work to weather in a gale while towing smaller fishing boats to safety.
A pic in a book I had showed 5 reef points in the mainsail.

A Colin Archer Around the World

I met a Swedish captain (Cap’n Rick) who sailed the world in his Colin Archer..... and he mostly did sail because he had a big ol Bolinder diesel engine that was immensely troublesome. He built the boat himself in Sweden and even for a colin archer it was a heavy boat. He had a great sense of humor and called her L’Escargot.
