They're not wrong about them being flimsy... I've fixed a few and I'm always blown away by the shoddy work and how little goes into them. That being said, people have crossed the Atlantic on a raft. And I'm sure there's a crowd here who'll swear by their Hunters. There always is. ;P

Re: 97 hunter 33

I owned a 89 32' hunter Vision for a couple years. She was a fine Coastal cruiser, I did four 400 mile crossings of the Gulf of Mexico in her. Looking back it was not advised... She was a tender, tender boat, best used for her designed purpose which is coastal cruising. I wouldn't take on the sort of journey your considering in one... But with the right weather and the right captain I'm sure you could pull it off.

If I were looking with that goal in mind and maybe that price range of boat, I think I might look at a Westsail 32
My opinion is worth what you paid for it.

I would concur... Your mission and your boat don't really match up. A Westsail won't be nearly as comfy in port but you'd be glad to have her under you while underway! It's always a trade off with boats...
