50’ slip in so cal

Hi Everyone. In a bout of pure empty nester insanity we just purchased a 48 foot sailboat. We’ve had a 30 foot sailboat for past 25 years. The new-to-us boat is currently in a marina in San Diego and they just raised their rates to $1400/mo and that doesn’t even include parking! We live in LA and are willing to have the boat anywhere between San Diego and Ventura. Any suggestions for reasonably priced slips would be very much appreciated. Would love to be close to restaurants and have a social environment. I hear that newport beach is insanely expensive.

Re: 50’ slip in so cal

Hi...

I am in SafeHarbor Anacapa Isle Marina in the Channel Islands Harbor and they have a sister marina in Ventura Harbor which is 6 miles away. You might get away with a 45ft slip since they have a 3ft overhang allowance. I think a non liveaboard 45ft slip may go for low $800s.
Problem with LA county is that with Covid life can be very restrictive. Ventura county is a little better. We are, however, a much smaller community and the social life is limited. We also have the Channel Islands that are amazing to visit and overall quality of life here is better than LA county. Finally, we do sail up here...we have much better winds for sailing than San Diego...though it is also a little cooler.
Nice thing about living on the boat....if you don't like the location you can always move.

Good Luck...

Abe
