Re: 34' boat with aft cabin
My parents had a Fantasia 35 (34' 5"), it has a great layout, better than most 40 ft'ers. Don't get a Mk I, the MK II sailed much better.

Thanks to all for the ideas! It will give me something more to waste my time on the internet this week rather than working.

I'm actually limited by the length of our slip (among a few other reasons). We like our marina. The price is right and its a perfect location from our house; 2 hours 15 minutes due west.
I might be able to sneak by with something that is 34' 6" but not beyond.

I suspected that. So you likely need a boat that is not over 34' including the bow pulpit, stern extensions (if any) and anchor etc . Some marinas use overall length of everything. They don't want the roller /anchor sticking out over the dock. Probably should be looking at 32-33 ft boats

They aren't too strict. There is one Ericson 35, 3 catalina 34's and several 34' power boats.
But to your point, I think 35' overall is about it.

If you can stretch it I just saw a Pearson 36-2 with a queen aft cabin for $20k. Located in Massachusetts.

Re: 34' boat with aft cabin
We have the two cabin version of the SO 34.2 and love it. When adding a foam topper to the aft cabin mattress we had to cut from a California king. Huge head with plenty of room to shower. Proper v-berth with standing room and a door. Sails well IMO. Our budget and size constraints were similar to yours. We have ours on Lake Superior. https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/su...y-342-jeanneau

Re: 34' boat with aft cabin
For 40k that's about the best you can do. If you're serious about a 34' boat that can comfortably host 2 couples with 2 queen-size cabins and lots of room to sperad out, check out the PDQ 34. It will cost about $200k and holds its value over time.

Re: 34' boat with aft cabin
Nauticats are well built, comfortable boats to live on and sail if speed is not your priority. The Nauticat 33 has an amazing aft cabin. They usually go for above your price point but here's a handyman special for under $20K- https://www.boats.com/sailing-boats/...at-33-7413483/
[Edit- just scrolled through all the photos of the above boat and of 64 photos there is none of the aft cabin. This boat is rough but the aft cabin must be a disaster! Easy to find other listings of these beautiful boats in the $90K range, so this is a great fixer-upper.]

Re: 34' boat with aft cabin
The Catalina 34 mentioned is a nice compromise in that size. We had friends sail a shoal-draft C34 from Lake Michigan down the East cost through the Caribbean. Picking weather window, they had no problems. The spent time in the USVIs working to build up the boat kitty. She was roomy for a 34'.
The Sabre 34-2 has an aft cabin version.
The Tartan 34 is another one to look at. We see a lot of those on the Chesapeake Bay and they are good looking. But, the aft cabin is not enclosed.
Stretching for Bob Perry designs, Valiant 32. 68 were made.
Cheers, RickG

Re: 34' boat with aft cabin
I looked at an Island Packet 31 last week that had a rear cabin which could be made private by folding up the chart table and pulling a wooden accordion door closed. The asking price was $31k, and the overall condition was good. Front Vee berth as well, with a door for privacy there too.

I think they were actually a 10 meter length so have seen them listed as 33' or even 32' so just google Lohi.
