1975 Pearson 10 Meter

I am wondering if taking a 1975 Pearson 10 meter is seaworthy enough to sail off to the Caribbean. I had a Pearson 424 Cutter / Ketch and made a few trips from Miami to Newport R I. on the outside and she handled beautiful. But that is a different animal. An approx. 11 day continuous trip. I do take the 10 meter out on 20 kt.- 23 kt. winds and she seems stable. Any comments about what I plan to do with are certainly welcome. Fair Winds

Seems like a reasonably seaworthy design. Boats of that vintage can be squirrely going dead downwind with the chute up, but the keg may help avoid that problem with this design. https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/pearson-10m. A thorough survey would help to make the choice more certain on this or any older boat.

I owned one 25 years ago. A good boat and likely better made than new Beneteau boats. Just be sure that you carefully check the bearing in the rudder and make sure the rigging is less than 10 years old. Prepare it as if you were going to circumnavigate, and you'll be fine. Also, a thought from a guy who has made the trip a few times. Don't leave from the Northeast. Go from Norfolk or that area. Your weather windows will be much more predictable. That is what Jimmy Cornell recommends, and I found out why the hard way when I left Newport going to Bermuda in mid-November in 2016. We got our butts kicked.
