Zaragosa Canal, Mexico

Anyone have any information about this new-ish cut between Xcalac and Chetumal? controlling depth, accessibility, etc.

I attempted to use that canal last year as a way to avoid going all the way down to San Pedro to go to Chetumal, and I was told by the locals that the canal it self was not bad, but once outside the canal on the bay side, there where some very difficult areas. I was doing it on a 37 intrepid with outboards, and even in that, the locals said it was not worth to try.
