Unhappy Where to replace broken Kindle in Bahamas, Caicos?

I am sailing with my parents from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Tampa Bay, Florida. My Kindle Keyboard caught a misplaced knee leaving Ocean World Marina on our passage to Grand Turk and is OCC. I use the 3G data for weather updates and would like to replace it. Does anyone know of a retail store between Providenciales and Bimini that sells the Kindle Keyboard 3G? Or am I SOL until Florida?

Thanks,
Brian

Welcome aboard the forum! I think you're only hope would be Nassau (or Freeport, but that's not on your way). There is (was) a Radio Shack at Harbour Bay, Nassau 242-393-3882 (across from Nassau Harbour Club Marina) and another store that sells electronic on the South side of the main street where the marinas are. It was 2010 when I was there last, though, and things change...plus you just never know what they have unless you call. Also, with import duties, expect it to cost 1-1/2x to 2x. Good luck!

Pretty sure there's nothing in TCI.

Thanks for the posts. We have a spare on board but if it breaks we would like to have another. I will hold tight until Florida.

Gosh it is hot here when the wind is slack.

When Kindles break it is almost always because of a defective screen. If the screen in yours is still good you just need to find another broken kindle and put your screen in it which is very easy to do.

Brian, you might ask Amazon, they should be able to tell you where their distributors are. Or, they may suggest that they'll express one out to the most convenient port for you. As long as it is marked as "spares for yacht in transit" or similar, and you pick a country not known for crazy delays, that might work out.

How do you get weather updates on a Kindle?

Kindles have secret experimental web access, on one of the menu pages.

If the extended warranty with Staples does not require me to submit the broken device for the replacement, I will fix the screen myself and get a new device.

As for weather, I use PassageWeather with success on every island with a cell tower thus far.

Enable advanced mode on the experimental browser, javascript and cookies too, and head to PassageWeather mini mobile interface (which works great as a low bandwidth desktop version too).
