Where haul out in West Florida?

Hi,

A few weeks ago I got lots of good advice for finding a boatyard on the east coast of Florida. After doing some reading about the Gulfstream in december, I prefer the west side of Florida.

If you could give me some names of yards on Florida's west coast, fi around Tampa which store safely, permit doing your own work, can be reached without any fixed bridges and have reasonable rates I'd be grateful.

I will check in here in a week or two. I hope I'll get a reasonable wifi connection in the USVI's.

Thanks, Len.

There are a few up the Anclote River.

Pitman Yacht Services|Tarpon Springs|Dry Dock|Boatyard

Not the cheapest around.

Nice people to deal with.

Someone on site 24/7.

Will let you work on your boat.

When you muck it it up they will help you figger it out.

Re: Where haul out in West Florida?

You can also try lighthouse yacht services in Tarpon Springs. They dont care what work you do there...

I sanded and painted my (boat) bottom there last October. I have also done work at one of the yards at Salt Creek in St Petersburg.

Either area there are people around to help, and if its more major fix what you mess up. In Tarpon, the yard guys helped for beer

I use the yard in Tarpon now, cause its closer.

I highly recommend Salt Creek Marina in St Pete. DIY yard, competitive prices, most of the local guys I know do there work there. I used them last time I hauled my boat, and will definitely continue to use them.

Few yards in Tarpon They are pricey for storage though One of the yards has a guy named Dan Zwemer, he is a true wiz when it comes to sailboats, great craftsman, and good rigger, and mech repair. I did hear of a yard in hernando where the rates are extemly cheap. Draft may be an issue.

Snug Harbor Marina, Maderia Beach. I haven't been there in several years, but if they are still around, they are cheap, no fixed bridges & and you could do your own work, or your own workers/contractors. The owner's name is Hank. Good guy, rough around the edges, but he will not sell you anything you don't need, won't sugar coat anything, and will even let you know when you can cut corners (safely) to save money. There is also a contractor that lives three blocks down the road named Kevin (look for the beatup Cape Dory 33) who can make anything out of anything. Buy them a case of beer @ the end and you have help/advise for life.
