Wanted to Charter 6 daysails in ST Thomas in April
Hello,
My girlfriend and I will be in St Thomas for the month of April and would like to charter 6 daysails, it's just the two of us, your boat must have snorkeling gear.
The dates we would like to go out are anywhere between April 13th - 29th.
Please PM me with your best package rate for 6 daysails, we can bring our own food and booze, we are on a budget so whatever is the cheapest we will go that route.
Thanks!!!

Call the marina in Redhook (STT) or Cruz Bay (STJ), & ask for recommendations. Or maybe call up a charter base in STT & ask for a recommendation. Everyone knows everyone down there.

Put your request on Craigslist. April is still high season and most licensed charters aren't going to be interested in making a "deal". On Craigslist you might find somebody who wants to make some money on their private, uninsured for commercial use, vessel. FYI most day charters charge about $150/day/person and wouldn't leave the dock with just 2 people which includes food and booze. Good luck and enjoy your trip.

I put it on Craigslist, I have had one response from a guy with a 36 Pearson who wants $500 for 1 day sail, no way I'm going to do that. LOL

That's what I was alluding to. Most captains aren't leaving the dock for $300 or apparently $500. :-) What were you expecting to pay?

I don't believe I said that at all. From your only CL response, that would be mathematically correct. What I did ask was how much you expected to pay. You've not really answered that yet...

Re: Wanted to Charter 6 daysails in ST Thomas in April
I was thinking $150-$250 a day would be fair (for a package deal of 6 daysails) depending on the boat and accommodations, water sports gear etc.
Am I out of line?
BTW thank you for your response and helping me out with this, much appreciated

You are welcome.
I don't think you are out of line. I don't even know you!!! I do think the odds of finding someone to do what you want in that price range will be problematic.

We call those cattle barges. They are still $150/day range and some carry well over 80 people. I don't recommend them...

The cattle barges can be fun....depends on the group.
Chip...are you looking to sail this boat with or without a captain? No captain and you need to look for a boat rental and snorkle off the beach.

Re: Wanted to Charter 6 daysails in ST Thomas in April
We were in Red Hook & Cruz Bay a couple of years ago before I was sailing. There were multiple signs on stakes by the sand / docks & flyers in the Marina offering day sails for $60 - $90 per day, depending on food or beverages provided & more to go to Jost. We found a sign that had "Captain Bob" on it. It was $75 pp & had 4 of us as guests. He was a local guy-cash only. He provided water only & snorkeling gear. We had a blast. Low key, sailed around St. John.
Look at my post above if your serious about day sails. The locals always know...

Just went to Low Key's website since you mentioned it. I'm not seeing $80-$90 for an adult for a full day trip. http://www.divelowkey.com/dive_stjohn.html?PID=22
I also got the impression the OP wished to not be on a boat with other guests. Glad you found Capt Bob for cash, whoever that is. Don't forget to add the $24 for two round trip ferry tickets.
