Vero Beach: Is it Good for Snowbirds ?

We are considering Vero Beach as a one-month destination in February. Anyone with experience who can comment?

We call it "Velcro Beach", once there, it won't let you go.

Assuming you're headed there by boat? Easy town to be a cruiser. Safe. Muni marina has great moorings ($15/night when we were there), free public busses pick you up right at the marina to grocery, West Marine, shopping, or to the beach/boardwalk. If you need it, good boat services too. Yes, there's a reason most people stay there longer than they'd planned. We were at a thanxgiving potluck there at the marina in 2009 with about 80 of our new best friends (other boats on moorings).

You may have to raft up if using a mooring, dock space is at a premium.

Easy, inexpensive moorings, great for provisioning, a fine community, but it's just good for us for two or three days. No "velcro" for us! Don't misunderstand me, it's an excellent place, but it's more crowded than I enjoy. Somehow, like George Town in the Exumas, we have difficultly clustering with so many other cruisers. The same thing happens with us in the Keys. We never stop in Marathon anymore than a day or two, - 'might as well be in a KOA campground!

I agree with CaptForce, it gets packed to the point where each mooring ball is rafting 3 boats. That is a little to close for comfort for me. If you are looking for a marina slip, you need to call well ahead to see if one is available, they go fast. We stay a few days and move on. Don't get me wrong, I love the place, the only problem is, so does everyone else!
If a slip is what you are looking for, try Cocoa Village Marina, the Village of Cocoa is right across the street, great place to spend some time. SM 890 there abouts.

I agree with others comments on the practice at Vero to raft boats up on the moorings. IMO there isn't anyplace that I like so much that I want a couple of boats tied up to me while I am there. That just seems to be a money thing since we have not seen this any place else. We also found the staff less than helpful and friendly than they have been in the past. Chuck
