Re: UK to Caribbean in March or April?

Yes, it is. But it takes a very good boat and comparable crew.

@barnakiel is there something out of the ordinary that should be expected at that time?

Or are you speaking in general on the crossing?

Thanks

Much depends on how we define 'ordinary'.

If we both understand how the static weather data is built (e.g. Pilot Charts) and how this data should be interpreted, and if we both understand what type of boat is required for safe navigation in the possible conditions (as contrasted with the average conditions) then there is nothing out of the ordinary.

March / April is early departure from those latitudes while departing later may put you into some/more risk of nasty tropical systems (especially if the season is early or if the boat is slow or slowed down).

Many boats from the UK cross in the summer towards Madeira then onwards in November or later. This is the easy way. Needless to say, a strong, fast boat with strong and experienced crew can cross at times that are less than perfect.

Cheers,
b.
