making this trip in november 2010, what do you recommend the related course/items to review to get up to speed on the trip

What sort of a boat and is your intent to get maximum speed or to see the sights on the way? If you intend on stopping to smell the roses, how much time do you have available?

As noted above, some details would be good.

I would STRONGLY recommend a stop somewhere in Florida - unless you happen to get VERY lucky. Traveling across the Gulf in November with a norther coming makes for a very unpleasant journey. You need to time your weather window for the Gulf such that you are either very far north (Florida panhandle) or such that you leave when no norther is forecast.

We had our first norther of the year last weekend - and it was very pleasant. But in November...
