Tortola Hotels

I am chartering from TMM this July. We have stayed in the usual Road Town hotels (Maria's BTS, Village Cay, Nanny Cay, Mariner Inn) but are looking for something closer to the TMM base. Considering Fort Burt and Prospect Reef, but have never stayed at either. I understand that Fort Burt is now being operated by Pussers, and has a mix of recently renovated and not-so-recently renovated rooms. From the online reviews it looks like Prospect Reef has had some ups and downs the past few years, but not clear which direction it is currently headed.

We're not looking for anything fancy, just a place to spend a night before we sail. Does anyone have recent experience with either hotel - good or bad? Any insight appreciated.

Re: Tortola Hotels

I don't usually respond to many posts, as my sailing experience is a bit limited. But my experience with Tortola hotels is greater.

The Fort Burt was the only hotel I ever stayed in where I was woken up by a rat, in my room, in the middle of the night. They don't man the front desk at night so we could not even report it until morning. Have not been back since.

I stayed at Prospect Reef before it was taken over by the BVI government. So I do not have current experience.

We have been thinking of staying at Nanny Cay the next time for a pre-sail night.

We have also done a sleep aboard the night before and that was satisfactory. You get extra time to check out the boat before heading out.
