St. Vincent and the Grenadines

heading down to grenadines does anyone have any advice on which islands and places to check out. also are there any other safety issues besides chateaubelair.

From a safety standpoint, I would avoid the mainland entirely and spend my time in the Grenadines....Bequia is very nice, maybe head down to Cariacou which can also serve as a check in/check out to Grenada if you have time to head down there as well.

Buy a Windward Island Guide Book by Chris Doyle, this is money well spent.

Mayreau-Salt Whistle Bay
Sandy Island-Carriacou
Petit St Vincent

Ditto what Keegan and Cam said. The Grenadines are one of our favorite places to cruise. You can't go wrong with Doyle's guide.

Most areas are not a personal safety issue but be sure to lift and lock dinghy each night. Dinghy theft in that area is rampant and many locking cables are cut at night while dinghy is tied and locked. Take the extra few minutes and raise dinghy nightly. Tyrrel Bay on Carriacou is especially known for outboard thefts.

If you have the correct attitude, the "boat boys" can be very fun and very
useful.

My only problem as an incident at Tobago Keys. My wife and I dingyed to Baradel
island, where we tied up our dingy and "played" for a while. When we returned to the dingy, I noticed it uas tied up differently. Later that day while on our boat, I was off snorkeling when a local in a boat informed my wife that he had found our dingy floating free and had tied it up again on Baradel. She thanked him and gave him a $20 after he hinted that he ought to be rewarded for his good deed. While I believe my wife did the correct thing, I doubt his story and am 99% sure the only way my
dingy came loose was from someone untieing it.

That is a pretty smart way to make money.
I imagine if she had called him on it and not paid it would go missing, huh?

I will "play" in the dingy I guess.

Due to personal expierence: watch the moorings right behind the Newland Reef in
Clifton Harbour they are NOT secure. ( expierence made in December 2008)

Look into Forum about expierience "Clifton Harbour", there are more ways to make money....

We liked Bequia also - but if you do plan to enter into west coast St Vincent suggest worth clearing in before anchoring / nightfall.
We met some marine police on St Vincent 2 years back and they assured us that if they know a vistor is at anchor then they will include them into nightly patrol runs.
If cruisers arrive late nights and do not clear in, then they won't be aware enough to do the same,
