Waited for about 3 weeks in No Name one year, but that was my first year and everyone was waiting. Basically you need the wind to go south of East, SE should be fine.... Or for the prediction to be no wind... If memory serves "no wind" is usually the SW or West "wind" which is when the wind is clocking or no established system. It may stay NE for days, but once it changes toward the south from NE or E, git 'er done! You need about 8-10 hours to get across. Have I got this right?

To summarize, I've seen windows to cross from a few hours to days. Last year I crossed in a front that lasted 3 days and came back with one that was 18 hours. I like to wait till the 2nd day of the front to make the crossing, if it looks like a slow mover. Remember, NO component of north in the wind when you cross. There are a number of good weather sites that I use to track a front. here are a few of them.
www.passageweather.com and www.grib.us the grib.us will require you to load an applet.
