Silent Thunder Sunk, Captain Drowned.

The 65 ft, converted tug, Silent Thunder, sunk north of the channel between Hamilton and St. Georges, BERMUDA late Thurs/ early Friday AM. The body of the owner/captain was discovered, washed ashore Friday morning.
Capt Steve Cummings advertised here on 24-05-13 for crew to Malta.
Silent Thunder was towed into St.Georges about 4 wks back with engine problems.
Two Crane barges are currently lifting the steel vessel from 35 ft of water at this time.
A police investigation is underway.
The vessel was in contact with Harbour Radio during the hours of darkness, clear night, no wind, in the vicinity of lighted marks, one being a yellow-over -black cardinal mark flashing a clear 6 white signal.
On a personal note, I met Steve recently, and am puzzled why an experienced mariner found himself in this situation.
The marine community wishes to express our sympathies to his family.
The Royal Gazette (Bermuda) newspaper, or their Facebook site, has detailed articles.

That's too bad. From reading about him, he sounds like a man worth knowing. Always sad when a sailor is lost.

Saw him and boat at Sunset Bay Marina when there last fall. Boat looked interesting and fairly well kept. So very sad.
