I was just in Egypt (not sailing thou) mostly in Cairo and up stream. Most people and govs consider it 'not safe' nowadays. I found it very safe and comfy place . Thou didn't visit Tahrir square night time..
For fun calculated the risk being killed in Cairo being same as one incident in my home village in 165 years, which by the way in reality is somewhat higher!

That's because folks know you! (not personal! - just that most folks are killed by people they know (likely family!) or have intentionally had dealings with, especially on non-legal matters......passing through less chance of that happening - if behaving self! and half a brain ).

So true..
Thou I had one 'insident' coming out from a bank visiting local ATM slot. Two 'souvenir entreprenourer' pushed in to close quarters btw us and our van obviously something more than a 'fair' deal in mind. I blocked myself btw them and the lady with me so they could't get her. Just had to push myself against them speaking polite bs so they backed up. Anyway at the same second we got in the car checked my pockets and yes, pickpockets they were, thou unfortunate for them just managed to empty my bait pocket which had some $1 bils for 'banshee' and such..

Bonus if it is strong enough so that it can't be just kicked in.

Ummm.... no.

And for my suggestion for the forward hatch, re-read my post.

I was asking about a manufacturer of grates FOR COMPANIONWAYS. Sorry for your confusion!

I have an *idea* about the forward hatch but haven't gone to look yet. It was a suggestion, not a dictate. Something to look at that might not cost too much; they probably come in many sizes.

Think you'll find the interest in the Lady was a grope of her breasts more than what was in her bag... running block is a common tactic when I'm accompanying a female in Islamic country's...
It's a common belief that all white women are whore's and fair game.

It's also known as "dash", "mordida" , "fragrant grease" or "campaign funds" depending on your local.

Remember walking through 'Boori Bazaar' in Karachi with a Dutch student and my kid brother... it was hard work and lots of elbow jabbing from us with her in between and a half a step behind...
Next day she wore Shalwar Kamize with a Duputa covering her head... totally different story...
Gotta remember... 98% of these folk only have a Hollywood world to go on... even local women who dress in Western exposure mode get hassle... mind... these are normally driven everywhere and only hang out in 5* places... otherwise they conform to the norm...
Vietnamese is not the norm... looks like Thai and everyones heard of Bangkok...

Of course over there with the ladyboy pickpockets the technique is to grab yer crown jewels (or to make an obvious move to do so) whilst they (or another) picks yer pocket.......the secret is to keep one hand on your wallet, and let the rest take care of itself .

I simply unzip, slap it on the table and say "I have nothing to declare except the fact that I am British" .

Also works on buses.
