I was born in the 3rd world, I live in the 3rd world and I have never, ever heard such thing.
Dogs are a good deterrent because they are alert and noisy.
BTW, I'm 56 and I have never been robbed in my life. I've walked in Bogotá at night and been around South Central LA and Caracas.
I think paranoia is more dangerous than theft.

I have only been here for 10 years so how is that not enough to know? 9 out of 10 people we met in Colombia and Venezuela will not pet a dog that they don't know, not even when the owner is there and tells them it's okay. Most are even scared of our pussycats.

Actually, I'm in de USA. I don't even know where Nial is.
Also, I'm an ex -"sheepdog"; and although I and the people I served with were ready and able to fight, kill, and/or die (some managed all three), we all would have been extremely embarrassed to be associated with that piece of cheap, self-serving piece of mental - ah, pop psychology you just posted.
And to all you civilians looking on in horror - we're not all like that. Really.

What exactly do you find so horrible? The fact that there are bad people? Or that there are those who stand up against them? Or that this gets discussed which is all scary and it would be better not to think about it?
You say you are an ex-sheepwolf? So, what are you now and how did you get changed?

Re: Security
Whilst I see the sheep and dog analogy to be very simplistic (did ya get it off Facebook? ), but to run with it.........I think ya want to be neither, maybe the shepherd. or better still the fella who owns the shepherd..........

Considering the audience...do you have a better way of explaining basic human tendencies?
Not being argumentative.... as much as that I agree with the concept I can see it disturbing other warriors...but in a page or less how do you explain the points he was making any better?

In some places you're best off being the wolf LOL Shepherd? Hmm, think you need to read it again Analogies can be confusing  it gets interesting when the shepherd turns out to be a wolf..

Re: Security
Well the whole wolf, sheep-dog, sheep is only conceptual. It's one persons opinion based on their own world view, most likely shaped by their past experiences, real or imagined. Doesn't mean it's right or wrong. Although the person who posted it may want to dig in their heels about it. Ideas tend to be polarized...left vs. right opinions usually. It's not really a matter of using violence at all. Just stay out of troubles way. Pretty easy to do. I have been to a good number of countries and usually get the lay of the land, so to speak. So I have a good idea of what is safe and what isn't. There are just places I have no interests in due to the possibility on confrontation.
Although it's a nice thought to know we have people here on the forum looking out for us.
