Sailing in Belize

Hello Cruisers...we have been cruising for a number of years on the west coast of Canada. We have been to Belize a couple of times in the past but on land (or kayak) rather than on a sailboat. We have decided to book a charter in Belize this October and see the atolls and islands from a sailboat rather than the shore. We are looking at booking out of Placencia. Does anyone have any advice? Areas to avoid? Must see locations? Risks? Suggestions? This information would be very helpful - to us as well as others...
