Re: Sailing Charleston inlet to St. Johns Rivers inlet

Georgia anchoring.
Well they have all these new laws on paper, but it would be nice to hear from anyone who has actually received a ticket.
The manatees in Georgia all wear flack jackets and helmets because tee top boats and jet skis are more numerous than mosquitoes in a swamp on weekends.
There are some very nice inlets if you want to rest. The north side of St Catherine’s Island. You can land a dink but are restricted to the beach. Look in the trees and you will see ring tailed lemurs.
Cumberland Island. Just very nice. Wild horses, shore birds. Lots to see.
Happy trails to you.
The manatee crew.

My original post stated that my knowledge dated from the 1990's. Both I, and the jetties, have aged considerably since that time.

The ICW in GA is beautiful and a very enjoyable trip. I would suggest that if one is in a rush, driving or flying would be a better alternative.

And the anchoring restrictions are much less than you are presenting. Much less.

That is absolutely doable on the ICW. I rode from Charleston to Daytona Beach, FL with a friend on a similar sailboat and we had no issues whatsoever.

Those jetties were built by the Army Corps of Engineers in the 1880's, so they've been there for ages. The actual jetties themselves are unchanged since the 1990's, but the shoaling (particularly on the south side where Dynamite hole is) has changed pretty regularly I believe. No comment on how I've aged since the 1990's, other than to say "it ain't pretty."
