From the context of the question one might assume Cartagena Colombia?

Ahhh... but from the context of a European it could be a security related question about the 2 marina's in Cartagena, Spain

I stayed at Club Nautico for a season, and found it to be quite safe and very convenient to a good supermarket and decent restaurants. It's a 15 minute walk to the center of the beautiful old city. Rates were reasonable, or you can anchor out (15-20 feet depth, thick muck bottom) just off the marina for free and dinghy in to the dinghy dock at the marina for a nominal charge. The only drawback was that you have to pay your marina fees in the local currency, but there is a money exchange at the supermarket.

We anchored off Nautico too in Colombia. It was quite safe, and the harbor patrol constantly cruises through the anchorage, day & night. Using the dinghy dock at Nautico gives you an endless free supply of delicious water. Of course there's a fee for the dock, but well worth it in water alone, and your dink is safe..........i2f

I think it was $25 a week for the use of the dinghy dock. In reality it's not free, but when you consider your dink is protected, and the water is delicious. It felt free to me...............i2f

You might send CF member Soft Air a PM if he doesn't post to this thread. He's in Cartagena and will be able to provide more valuable detail than anyone else, probably.

the second option is club de pesca which is a private club but accepts visiting yachts. It is just next to Nautico and has a long list of reservations so book early.

For weather protection it is about 5x as secure as club nautico. Anchoring is also more secure than club nautico (we only anchored in Cartagena but had friends in both marinas). Last info I have is that Nautico is closed but they might have re-opened recently.

cheers,
Nick.

We have just spent 9 weeks in Cartagena on the Club Nautico dock... Club de La Pesca is an order of magnitude nicer and more secure than Club Nautico but you must book well ahead.

The dinghy theft count for the anchorage is over 20 for the year.

Club Nutico's dock is in poor repair, electrical wiring does not meet US standards of safety, and security is poor; there was one asault and a couple of minor thefts in the 9 weeks we spent on their dock. John the Dockmaster is a very nice and helpful person without whom the place would be a disaster, and I am pulling my punches in describing the place!

They were forced to demolish the bar/restaurant by the City because it was built without suitable permits and was running an open air disco until 2 am each night.

My wife refuses ever to return to Club Nautico...it has something to do with the dock workers in 4 inch heels and very short skirts!

However, it is a great place to get work done at very reasonable prices.

Facts on Club Nautico's history. The Clubhouse Restaurant/bar was not demolished because of the lack of permits etc. We ceded 4 meters of frontage to allow for a new cycle way proposed by the mayor in order to obtain a New marina concession in 2008. This cut right through the old Club restaurant so it had to be removed. All constructions plans were approved by the concession provider (the nation).

Comments on open air disco's going on every night until the early hours is pure fairy tale. Perhaps a wedding reception or a Bohemian night (with Classically trained local musicians). Maybe a St Patricks day bash or a Thanksgiving dinner and disco. Possibly a Halloween show. The innuendo in Dr Phil's comments is so well contradicted by so many former visitors.

As far as ladies in high heels are concerned we have a firm policy against soliciting and particularly against the involvement of minors (under 18 years old). More and more we are seeing families coming to Cartagena on their Sailboats and this is what we hope to encourage. Of course cruising sailers come in multicolours and a Club like ours often finds difficulty in setting a balance..maybe we need to become a little more conservative in our approach and lay down a stricter set of rules. The debate is open.

Those longshoremen unions ruin everything.
