Refitting in Cartagena, Colombia, or elsewhere in Caribbean?

Hi,
I've searched the forum several times about Cartagena, and found threads which date to about 2008-2010.
My boat needs a refit and I'd like to know what the going rates in Cartagena (or elsewhere in southern Caribbean) are nowadays, as I've understood the prices have hiked up quite considerably. If it was affordable a few years ago (was about 20-25USD/day/man?), what is the situation today?
My boat (22-year old 63f fiberglass sloop) would need to be repainted, teak decks fixed (lifting) possibly some fiberglass work, electrical rewiring, varnishing, sails overhaul, Barrier coating would be nice.. etc.
Is the Cartagena still a "budget refitter's" good choice, or has it become just as expensive as any other destination?
Any other destinations recommended? How about Isla Margarita? (or even possible, travelift?)
In any case the hardware and materials is best bought from the US?
I'm currently located in Rhode Island, US.
Regards,
Erik

I felt sorry for you not receiving any response. I have not been to Cartagena but if you just google Cartagena boatyards, you will find more information.

Here is a yard there you might try calling?

Re: Refitting in Cartagena, Colombia, or elsewhere in Caribbean?

Thank you guys, I really appreciate your help!
I would have loads to do with this boat and I'm working on a budget so I'll need to get my figures to add up, I think I read somewhere that the rates in Cartagena had hiked up to about 7$/hour (a year or two back?) which would make it to about 50$/day, which is double to that what it apparently was a few years back (~2008-2010), so this is what I'm trying to find out, if this is really true today (or even worse), if it really is worth the trip from Rhode Island (New York) all the way to Colombia, its not a particularly short&easy trip...

There are still many bargains to be found south of the U.S. when it comes to refit work. You need to find a country where the labour rate is very low and the skill set you need is available. Central American countries such as Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua have very low labour rates and in certain areas you can get excellent workmanship for peanuts. You will have to have some knowledge of the work you want done and the ability to oversee the job. Also any parts will have to be brought with you to the location where the work is being done.
