Permissions US to BVI

I've never done this trip....not as an adult anyway.....on the outboard side from Florida to the BVI. Last time I went, there was no "cruising fee" in the Bahamas, etc.

So, those of you who have done it, what am I gonna have to shell out and to whom to sail down there en route?

If you sail through the Bahamas to reach the BVI I do think you will want to stop. If you sail through non-stop you would not have to check in or pay. Payment would be to Bahamas Customs and Immigration. Current charge for cruising I believe is USD$300.

It's $300 for boats 35 feet and over, $150 for those under that.

I'm interested in this, because I'm considering buying a 45 footer in the BVI and going in the oposite direction. What is the first port of call for customs in the South Bahamas. Any charges in the T & C islands

I haven't been to T&C or the DR, the best site is probably the noonsite countries list. After you click on a country, the left side of the page will have a link to "Formalities" that also shows fees.

The BVIs have what I would call "nominal fees" based on how long you stay (also found on noonsite).

I paid $94, a month ago. That includes a surcharge of 15$ for ovetime!! They close at 4h30 and he stamped my papers at 4h35 (honest to god!). But I suggest you skip the place, or fly your yellow flag for a couple of days as you are going true.

DR? That is very variable, I paid a total of $75 in Luperon. In Puerto Rico I paid $0.00 cause I am Canadian! I know that US resident have to pay like $25.

There is not fee to check-in to Puerto Rico if you have your US Customs Decal before you leave the US waters. That decal can be obtained online and is good for one calendar year.
- - T & C is used to be free if you check in and out during "normal" working hours which is virtually impossible you end up paying the "overtime" charges.
- - The D.R. (Luperon/Samana) are highly variable and the supposed average fees add up to about US$94.
- - I was in BVI last year and the fees for one month was US$22.
