Northwest Passage on a Shoestring
Hi all I am new to this forum and would like some feedback.
I am planning a trip from Sweden-Norway-Scotland-Iceland-Greenland through the Northwest passage this summer. If any of you have experience high lattitude sailing, sailing in ice, required equipment I would like to hear back from you. If you want more detail about the boat, trip etc. check it out and please give me your feedback. www.belzebub2.com
Thank you!

Welcome to Cruisers forum. I have read thru your website and look forward to watching your progress. It looks like a great adventure.

Never found anything better for dealing with ice on deck and rigging than a wooden baseball bat. Saw that used on USCG and USN ships and some Norwegian supply ships.
Forced air diesel heat is the bomb.

Go to "Open Passage Expedition" on the web. These guys did it in in 09 in a 40 footer from Victoris B.C. to Halifax.

Re: Northwest Passage on a Shoestring
Hi, A friend of mine, Matt Rutherford, is leaving the Chesapeake in June to attempt a solo transit of the NW Passage in a 27 Albin Vega. Actually he intends to circumnavigate the Americas via Cape Horn and Back to the Chesapeake next summer. He has done a lot of research and I am sure he wld like to share with you

Re: Northwest Passage on a Shoestring
I have no experience sailing in ice, but I have to say, you are awesome, don't let naysayers keep you from doing it.
I have read a lot of books, and what I have gleaned from these is that you can never have enough insulation and heating fuel.
In North to the Night, the protagonist realizes a little late that he could have used more heating fuel!
