After having their home destroyed by Hurricane Jeanne in 2004 my friends have been rebuilding their home as a Green Enviro Home. It's received international attention by using the latest green technology. The SOLAR POWERED AC Unit is expected to arrive next month. Anyone interested can check their website at Florida's Showcase Green Envirohome Mark 'n Nonnie will be consulting on future builds of green enviro homes worldwide.

We have a power plant near us that burns bunker C. It is not used frequently, but when it is used, there is no problem with polution. They spent the money to make it much cleaner than it used to be.

Judging by all the half finished/abandoned projects of various types in the Bahamas I wouldn't worry much about it happening any time soon.

Why not wind turbines? No wind there? Why not solar power - no sun? Why not build the houses in more energy-efficient way?

I agree with some of what has been said on both the 'green' and the 'dirty' alternatives to make the energy.

Use less. That's my way.

Barnakiel,

I doubt you use less than the people living in the Abacos... I see most burning a candle when it gets dark!

I think they can't afford solar or wind and it would be a victory if they get that oil plant on-line!

ciao!
Nick.

Plant but on hold!

The Goverment of the bahamas has put the power plant in Abaco on hold and has stopped construction as of yesterday. You can see more information on this at www.oii.net on there message board including links and also www.abacoforum.com We may have a need for a larger Power Plant but everyone is glad the Gov. has slowed down and listining to residents and there wants for how to make it and were. Mosat everyone I know has electric and not alot of us burn candles for light any more when it gets dark, we even have airconditioners so this is important to us.
