Re: Mosquito Holes

When my girls were small we went on a camping trip in the North West Territories and one day they went swimming. Later my wife called me to come to the tent. My oldest daughter was bitten by black flies so bad you could see the outline of her bathing suit on her back and shoulders. My youngest daughter had one or two bites. They had been playing together the whole time.

Mosquito need water . You must get rid of all water around your home. They can survive in the smallest cap full. I have heard that vicks vapor rub works. Never tried it though. I recall my mom putting this stuff on me if I complained of a cold.. I learned to never complain .

Feel for DeepFrz, who lives in Winnipeg, one of the mosquito capitals of the world.

Re: Mosquito Holes

Gord, if things keep going the way they have been in the last few years we will have to give up that title. Amazing what they have done with the mosquito abatement program. I don't even think they have had to spray this year and yet its the year of the flood.

Mosquito trap count for the 24th: City wide daily average = 1.
That is absolutely awesome...

Re: Mosquito Holes

Here in Ga and in the Florida Gulf, Avon makes a product called "Skin So Soft" It's at a premium during bug season but is effective in keeping the little buggers under control. . . Also, spray bites with WD-40 to take the itch and sting out. . .

Best advice we ever had on flying biters was from a Fla Fish & Game officer - We asked what he did when the bugs were specially fierce - he said "I just don't go outside". . . sage advice if you can manage it. . .

Re: Mosquito Holes

Im so prepped for my next leg and the black fly battle. Taking notes from the piracy threads. I am armed with bear spray, have electrified the lifelines, loaded my flare gun, taped the Sunday times onto my fish club, I have several cans of yard bug bombs. I can make the boat vanish in a self made toxic fog. I have grates across the companionways. Anyone want to form an armada down the jersey shore.
