Marco Island to The Keys?

We're planning to go from Marco Island to The Keys in about 30 days. Can this trip be done as day sails along the coast or is it only doable as a straight overnight sail?

We're in a 42' sailboat that draws 5'-1".

Thanks

rleslie, It is a beautiful trip. I just did the reverse back in November on the way from Miami to St. Pete, Fl. The route I took should be good for you. My pearson 365 draws 4.6 but i always go with 5' clearance. From Marco you can easily make Shark River. I strongly recommend stopping there at the inlet on the North side of the entrance to the river. it is one of the most beautiful places i have anchored lately. Lots of wildlife and a very peaceful, tranquil place. The Southwest Florida Cruising Guide gives a great description for pulling in. last November the outer marker was gone. probably wiped out by hurricane Wilma. From Shark River I would head out a bit and then past East, Middle and down to Cape Sabal. South of Cape Sabal you will find Yach Channel. It looks a bit scary as it is an "S" turn with skinny water on both sides but I made it through with no problems. From yacht Channel, you are a short hop to Long Key or Fiesta Key. I liked this spot in the Keys as it gives you a good mid-point for the keys and the option of going up towards Miami or South to Key West. best of luck, Wiz
