rleslie, It is a beautiful trip. I just did the reverse back in November on the way from
Miami to St. Pete, Fl. The
route I took should be good for you. My
pearson 365 draws 4.6 but i always go with 5' clearance. From Marco you can easily make Shark River. I strongly recommend stopping there at the inlet on the North side of the entrance to the river. it is one of the most beautiful places i have anchored lately. Lots of wildlife and a very peaceful, tranquil place. The Southwest
Florida Cruising Guide gives a great description for pulling in. last November the outer marker was gone. probably wiped out by
hurricane Wilma. From Shark River I would
head out a bit and then past East, Middle and down to Cape Sabal. South of Cape Sabal you will find Yach Channel. It looks a bit scary as it is an "S" turn with skinny
water on both sides but I made it through with no problems. From yacht Channel, you are a short hop to Long Key or Fiesta Key. I liked this spot in the Keys as it gives you a good mid-point for the keys and the option of going up towards
Miami or South to
Key West. best of luck, Wiz
