Louisiana ICW Anchorages
I am planning a trip East this November on a "new to me" 40 foot sailboat with a 6 foot draft. I would like to take the icw to get used to the boat before going offshore. I went same route on a different boat 5 years ago, but have forgotten a couple of stops we made. Anyone want to share locations and specifics of their favorite stops on the ICw in La.? A couple of our stops were less than ideal-maybe their are better ones for this trip. Thanks Ed

Sea Gypsy,
Thanks for the help. Any problem with 6 foot draft? Do we call ahead for space? Ed

Marc2012,
We anchored last time in the Petit Anse, soon as anchor down Barge asked us to move. Ended up just inside Bayou with two anchors down. Any problems or suggestions on how or where to anchor in the Petit Anse? Thanks Ed

Eddie, If you don't mind doing some reading, start here, Voyages of Sea Trek: 0002. Taylor Bayou to Adams Bayou and if you scroll down the left column under Our Postings, 0002 through 0007 covers our trip westbound including anchorages. We used some great ones and enjoyed each. Our sailboat was also 40 ft. and we had a six foot draft so you will have no problem. If you scroll down even further posts 24 and 25 (not 0024 and 0025) cover the trip eastbound. Good luck and enjoy. Chuck

Marc2012,
Thanks for the local info. South of the ICW at the petit Anse,is this the Avery Canal you are talking about? How far off the ICW do people anchor?

I don't know if it's still being published, but at one time, the was a "Southern Waterway Guide" which gave very detailed descriptions of every decent anchorage from Brownsville, Texas to Carrabelle, Florida. Even an old copy would probably work. Those anchorages don't move around much.

Avery canal is north, south of icy only mile or so to bay.I would go the extra 5 mi(iberia canal) and anchor in the bay weather permitting.S petite anse must be carefull tide does not go out or wind shift will be aground.I would skip peti anse anchor there only if in a bind.Google active captain.marc
