Is that north enough to avoid the thorns?
There are no north winds, only easterlies. We took 10 days from florida to T&C, and then another 10 days T&C to Puerto Rico, averaging two knots. Go east at lat 34, not 24.

It comes down to time, how much time do you have to wait for a windows.

Also, it will take a week or more if jumping off of NC, better be sure the tropics are quiet in making the trip in Nov.

And for single handers, the shorter hops would be more appealing, I believe you will be crossing freighter routes.

Of course there are north winds, if not in November December will for sure bring a cold front to the Bahamas. I just would wait in San Salvador not TC. It is important to chose a light one as opose to a big blown.

gene80,

I have a thought for you, but then I'm a light weight and don't like getting beat up clawing into the wind. Port Everglades and Freeport have a number of yacht transports that will take you to St. Thomas for a quick and easy trip. If you show up to the transport ship the week before it leaves, they'll give you half price, if they are NOT FULL.

Assuming you have time flexibility and you can get a half price deal, it's cheaper than sailing into the wind, after you consider repairs, time, food, etc.

Now you're there and can look forward to the coast down hill on the way back.
