Re: little shark river

Line up with the channel out a ways, don't try to cut the corner if coming from the north. Favor right of center of the channel. Leave plenty under the keel(s) when anchoring, last time there (2 months ago) a mono was 'heeling' about 5 degrees when we weighed anchor and left at low tide in the morning. (It had a Canadian flag so I assumed they were intending to do that!)

Were they leaning right or left?

Beautiful spot. Last time I was there, many years ago, the bugs were horrendous right around sunset! Had to beat a hasty retreat below.

Re: Little Shark River

Water depth is not a problem in Little Shark. The keyhole anchorage immediately to the north, as you enter the river, has room for about 6 boats. It is a sand, gravel and leaf litter bottom with reasonable holding. The anchorage is well protected from all winds except a very strong southwesterly. The depths range from 8 to 12 feet. Whenever we've anchored there we've always had the feeling of being in an area that replicates how the earth looked during the Age of Dinosaurs with the dense tropical flora and the syncopated sounds of the abundant birdlife. If you squint your eyes in the subdued light, you just might see the head of a Brontosaurus peering through the treetops. And, although the mosquitoes are ferocious at dawn and dusk, this is a magical anchorage and not to be missed. Good luck and good sailing, Ron

Re: Little Shark River

Plenty of water as charted, dont expect a desolated anchorage. Ive been there when the anchorage was full and so was up the river as far as you could see. ended up double anchoring in a small space.
