Leaving the boat for Christmas

So this will be my first winter cruising and I'm trying to figure out what I'll do to get back to my folks house during Christmas. I will be in the Bahamas by November and figured on coming back to Florida, mooring the boat somewhere and renting a car to drive up to Arkansas the week before Christmas.

Is this a viable plan? Are there available mooring fields that won't mind the boat being unattended for a week or two? I don't feel comfortable anchoring unattended that long and I would prefer not to get a slip because of the expense. Any suggestions on locations to leave the boat?

Thanks!
Steve

Re: Leaving the boat for Christmas

Steve,
We left our boat at Dinner Key (Miami) mooring field for a couple weeks over Christmas several years ago. It didn't seem to be an issue to leave it. They had a water taxi so easy to get to and from the boat with gear. Convenient public transportation to the airport to pick up a rental. Good people running the place then. We rented a mooring ball for a month total.

Re: Leaving the boat for Christmas

Have you thought about just leaving your boat in the Bahama's?
It would save having to make several trips across the stream which may become weather dependent.
If interested can suggest several safe very reasonably priced places.
Good luck.

So I considered that but looking at costs for the fairy it seemed like cost wise it would be a bit of a wash. Especially since I have a dog that will be traveling with me

Though if the weather doesn't cooperate then I may well take this route
