Lake worth inlet to Berry Islands, Great Harbor.

This is my plan for tomorrow but this is our first Gulf Stream crossing so your input is very welcome.

We are planning on leaving Lake Worth Inlet/ Palm Beach Thursday at 7am and traveling due on a due east heading at 6-7 knots until we clear the Gulf Stream. I expect to be pushed about 16 miles north off my heading.

Once clear of the GS I plan to head south/ southwest towards Great Harbor. I will slow the boat to ensure we do not cross the shelf to shallow waters until day break. Then we will finish the last 14 miles across the bank to Great Harbor.

Boat= Lagoon 440 sailing catamaran
Travel time - 26 hours
Wind - light and varied for the GS crossing then 9-14 knots on the nose.
Waves 1-2 ft on the nose, 7-4 second periods

I wouldn't call it a perfect day for crossing, but it shouldn't be too bad (it would be a better day for coming back).

And, I agree, I'd be heading over from a little farther south, (Fort Lauderdale, if it was me.)

But, regardless, you're going to have the time of your life when you get there!

It was perfect! We got soooo lucky. The 2-3 ft seas were going to the southeast so they were following us the entire time. We hardly moved north while crossing.

Im told that we will never again will we see conditions like that

We crossed over a few years ago, one day, from Miami to Cat Cay, when it literally, was as flat as a parking lot. The biggest waves were ripples from our boat from the vibration of the motor (we had to motor, there was no wind at all). We motored up onto a pod of three whales just floating on the surface about halfway over that we passed fifty yards abeam of.

We just kept saying, "It literally can't get any flatter than this."
