Internet in Bahamas
We are planning to layover in Nassau Harbor on our way to the BVI next month. I need 3 or 4 days of good internet connection for business work. Any suggestions.

My last trip to Nassau there were internet cafes readily available around town, high speed and cheap. Will that work or do you need connection on board?

The problem we had with internet at some places in the Bahamas was that it was slow and not able to handle Skype. We usually could not make a good wireless connection from the boat. We had to go ashore. In Nassau, I would think that things would be OK.

I publish a senior newspaper and do all the layout online, so I need wifi for hours at a time. $10 or even $20 day is not an issue. I would prefer to work onboard, but could do it in a cafe. Once I get to the BVI, I can use the local CCT phone card in my computer. I did that twice last year. Great service, unlimited time and capacity.

If you are anchored in the anchorage in Nassau Harbor east of downtown and west of the Paradise Island bridges there is a sailor's hangout called the Green Parrot. Free WiFi and a Thursday sailors luncheon. You may be able to pick it up on the boat but, if not, sailors are welcome to sit at one of the many outdoor tables. Of course, buying a drink or two is only polite but not mandatory. You can get more info on the morning net hosted by local fixture Nick Wardle. Listen on channel 16 at, if I recall correctly, 7AM.

I've heard you can buy a card in Nassau at the Batelco store for a reasonable price. Maybe that would work for you. I think it's described in the Explorer chart book. Maybe also on their web site?
I realize the thread is a few weeks old, so don't know if you still need this.

I'm using Bahamas WiMax right now in Green Turtle Cay. I'm pretty sure they are also in Nassau. I know they are in Marsh Harbor. I think it cost about $105 for a month, and about $5/day, w/ in between rates as well.
Can't believe I made it here!
Cheers,

Fullmoon,
Just noticed where you're from. I left Brunswick Landing about April 2nd, got to Lake Worth & had to leave boat for 10 days to go home & ultimately have tooth removed. Left there last Tuesday & got here in Green Turtle yesterday. Not sure if I'll be taking boat back to Brunswick, may try to find a place here to leave her until I can get back.
Cheers,
Randy
