Bigger issue we experienced was that on several bridges the wires to the light were not taught or attached along the span but hanging in loop much lower than height listed. Very easy to catch mast head instruments. Hit the vhf antenna a few times. Impossible to steer around until you are too close to do anything about.

If you lay down on the floor of the dinghy you can use a golf range finder to determine the bridge clearance. Send the dinghy ahead and you should be fine.

I recommend no substantive responses to the anthropogenic climate change deniers. It's just trolling. They are either willfully ignorant or just trying to rile people up. Deny them the oxygen they need and they will sink back down into the swamp.

Not true. There is no crisis. Climate related deaths have declined by over 98% in the last 100 years. Sea level measurement is very difficult because of so many variables. That’s why there’s no consensus among scientists. The polar bear situation is the most disputed. Based on my research, the total world polar bear population is increasing and decreasing depending upon where you look.
But based on the so many debunked catastrophes by Steven Koonin, I don’t believe that the polar bears are a victim of climate change since it is a fact that our climate is barely changing.

NOAA says that in the 100 years 1919-2019 Sea Levels along the east coast of USA have risen exactly 5 3/4 inches. 18000 years ago sea levels were 185ft below now and have been rising kind of continuously since. However in the past 10 years sea levels have not rose any.

The site is handy for those times when the actual (rather than predicted) water level matters.

Those are (supposed to be) minimum heights within the fenders...

Your local golf pro or sniper store can probably answer the question of range finder accuracy. Like most things the higher priced models are probably the best.

I've used a Leupold model extensively, it's stated accuracy was 0.5%, so I'd expect it to be +/- 4 inches on a 65 foot bridge. (You'd need to know your exact height of eye of course, and do a little math to convert slant range to height unless you were directly beneath.)

Thanks. I think +/- 4" would serve. I doubt the height boards on the bridges are that accurate.
