Hurricane Storage

I would appreciate points of view on the following. Harbourtown Marina in Cape Canaveral on Merritt Island has lock access off the ocean so they do not have tide. So that means no storm surge from a hurricane.

If there is no strom surge would having your boat docked be safer than on the hard because the wind profile will be lower.

Thoughts? Bonus points if anyone has better hurricane storrage suggestions closer to Fort Lauderdale.

one of the best places I know of is Indiantown Marina, Indiantown, Florida, Martin County, St. Lucie Waterway, Lake Okeechobee, Hurricane Hideaway, Boating and that is much closer to Ft Lauderdale than any other Hurrican Hole I know of in Florida.

Harbourtown Marina in Cape Canaveral on Merritt Island is the #1 place to store a boat during the hurricane season and as a result is normally totally full and has a waiting list that can be very long. Titusville Marina is another option. But generally all the marinas in Florida are overfull. Marinas that are considerable distance inland or away from the coastline are your best bets to find space. There are two good marinas up on the St. Johns River about 20 nm inland from the Jacksonville Inlet - Reynolds Park Yacht Center and Green Cove Springs Marine. They are both up the St. Johns as far as you can go before encountering the 45ft bridge at Red Bay Point.
