Hurricane Holes

Other than Rio Dulce what are some other hurricane holes from the US on down to Argentina?

Re: Hurrican holes

A bit close to the U.S. but Luperon is a good candidate. Chuck

Re: Hurricane Holes

mazatlan has marina mazatlan. no damage in 33 yrs-- prolly next on gods's hit list..... up into th esea of cortez, where water is a shade cooler there are spots-- puerto escondido , i was advised, is a good one, and so are other places up into the sea. i know some folks left mazatlan a month ago for up into the sea. anywhere cold sea water is is a safer spot....but this is WEST coast..... i dont know yet the EAST coast places to hide... still in research mode there.....but, still, colder water means no named storms.....

Re: Hurricane Holes

Once you get south of 10 degrees north there's not much use for hurricane holes. The south atlantic has had only one hurricane since records have been kept and only 2 tropical storms. Even then only the hurricane made landfall as a cat 1. That was in 2004.

Based on Matzatlan's record and hurricanes, is the Tampa Bay area a better bet?

They have not had a hit since 1921 (Cat 4).

If Tampa Bay area ever gets hit again, predictions are that it will make Katrina look like a squall due to the damage of a tidal surge.

Correct me if I am wrong, but are there not two elements to a "hurricane hole".
  1. Small likely hood of being hit by a hurricane (Grenada, Trinidad)
  2. Even if hit, good protection from effects (Lupercon)

Any place in Florida that has not been hit for an extended period is only through luck.

Thoughts?
