How to get from San Juan to Tortola

Anybody know a cheap way to get from San Juan airport to Tortola. A bunch of us have a charter out of Tortola on march 10. Our flights are booked. Now we hear rumors that we need to got through st Thomas. Any opinions? I did see the other post about this. Cheap flight to St Thomas then ferry to Tortola. Just wondering if there are a new option.
Or
Anyone in the vicinity want to be a ferry service. March 9 and then march 17.
(can't hurt to ask eh)

How big is your group? Over on TTOL (traveltalk online, BVI Forum) one can check out a private airplane charter that is often cheaper than paying for flights from SJU to either STT or EIS (St. Thomas or Beef Island, BVI).

Air Sunshine flies from SJU to EIS four times a day for $145 one way, $270 round trip. It's a "charter" flight, meaning that you fill out a form chartering a seat on one of their scheduled flights and fax it back to them. The planes are eight-seaters with limited luggage carrying capacity.

Thanks for the tips.
So far I've found round trip flight from San Juan to St Thomas $84(+tax) then ferry to Tortola $40.
Still wondering if there would be local boat charters available direct from San Juan to Tortola.

That trip would be roughly 90 miles one way in potentially rough conditions. I can't imagine how it could be done cheaper than the prices you've mentioned via boat.

I guess you guys could try and sneak onto a cruise ship.

Is that $40 ferry one way or round trip?

I'd look at the options for flying SJU to EIS. It will save you significant travel time and hassle. The only reason many go through St. Thomas is that its often a lot cheaper than flying in to EIS, but most people book direct there and would avoid SJU altogether.

Flying SJU to EIS is a 45 minute flight.

Cape Air is another scheduled airline from PR direct into Beef Island (Tortola).

I've used it several time and it's cost is only a bit more than the cost of the Ferry Ride/ Taxi fare you will have if doing the St. Thomas run. It is also far more interesting and a great sight seeing opportunity when you near the BVI.
