How Do You Pronounce It?
Caribbean: kar-uh-BEE-uhn, or kuh-RIB-ee-uhn? Dictionary says that either is acceptable. I use both, but mostly the first way. My wife always pronounces it the second way. Just curious how most pronounce it, especially those who live there.

Re: How Do You Pronounce It?
I lived there for around eight years. Most, but not all, of the locals pronounced it "kar-uh-BEE-uhn". Most, but not all who came from somewhere else pronounced it "kuh-RIB-ee-uhn.

I'm in the BEE camp.
But then I'm from California, lived in the south, then Up-State NY, and now live in the Northeast. Hell in Boston you can walk across the street and words greatly change!

Re: How Do You Pronounce It?
It is a very difficult word to say. You first have to have all parts of your mouth ready and that can take a while. I've noticed that if you have about 4 to 5 Rum Drinks you can generally say all those Caribbean Words just like one of us Locals.

Re: How Do You Pronounce It?
Both ways depending on the conversation. For example, Royal Caribbean Cruise is "rib" and the Caribbean Sea and Queen are "be"

most of the locals refer to the carib as "in de islands(ilons) and north and south of the chain as " up island and down island".

Re: How Do You Pronounce It?
Years ago my mother was in St Lucia and met a local who claimed to be a descendant of the original Carib Indians which is pronounced ca REEB.
He was quite adamant that the area named after Carib Indians should be pronounced Ca REEB ean
