Haiti

Newby here. Not yet sailing.

But I have a real (albeit possibly stupid ) question.

I know there are not a great deal of tourist attractions in Haiti, but my wife & I have been there & will be going back soon. We financially support an orphanage outside of Port Au Prince, and are in the process of raising funds to build and support an entire orphan village in either Gonaives or Hinche.

The question is...is sailing to Haiti (either PAP or Gonaives) possible? prudent? safe? are there reasonable ports / marinas? Will my boat be there when I get back from shore? Has anyone done this?

Land arrangements are not a problem as far as transportation, lodging, food, etc.

Thanks,

Dave

Re: Haiti

25 years ago I anchored in a bay at Ibo Beach, small island in the Gonaive bay. We remainded there for over two month in the most beautiful surrending, nice people, small marina nearby but no services. The mangrove are providing some protection even during the hurricane season. Nowaday, I can't tell what it looks like, I never returned.

What did you have to do to the beautiful, nice people to get them to surrender?
