Talk to the people at Island Dreams. They do concierge service for large boats and are ex-boaters themselves. They would know the answer to almost any boat related question in Grenada.

Re: Grenada Based Cruising Season

One thing to consider....Is the cruising permit.....Note: I haven't been in Grenada since 2004.

Then you paid for your cruising permit and it was valid as long as you were in Grenadian waters....no time limit. If you left their waters for a day sail to say the SVG and returned.... you would have to pay for another cruising permit.

Rumour at the time I was there, was that's why Moorings moved their base to SVG.

Thanks Phil, I really appreciate it.

Yep, after a couple of ridiculously low offers on our 53, and the failed Atlantic crossing in August, it got me to thinking during these long hours working all three shifts at the hospital this winter.... How can I turn this around? Well... 40 years ago my wife and I spent 12 years doing quite well in the people/hospitality/entertainment business, so why not do it again whilst doing something we enjoy.

Mrs. Mac thinks it's a great idea, so here we go...

Cheers

Ken

Re: Grenada Based Cruising Season

I CAN NOT BELIEVE THE COST! My cat 35" is in Roses, Spain hauled up yearly at about $300 US. Just research the Grenada marinas and this is what I got. Grenada .57, Whisper .71, Prickly not found, Clarke's .63 and Spice .55 plus about $150 for a cradle/mo. and $76 ish for chocks (all included for me in Spain) and $5/day live aboard (no charge in Spain) and haul out is 2x as much and my rate includes two coast of bottom paint done when I arrive!? 55 cents to 71 cents for my 35 ft translates to $577.50 to $745.50 off season per month!!!!! plus, plus, plus... ad infinitum.

As i plan my relocation to the Caribbean, i need to reassess. Where are the lessor expensive marinas if any?

Re: Grenada Based Cruising Season

Following. We've spent the past 5 seasons basing out of Puerto Del Rey Marina, Puerto Rico. Nice place, very well run, big marina, lots of capability, easy supply via USPS+UPS+FedEx, and lots of local chandlery options. But even though we've not had a claim in 20 years, sailing Asia, the Medd, and now the Caribb, our insurance just went to "0" for named storms. And so we're looking!!! Who do you use for insurance there in Greneda?

All personnel related when one crew member jumped ship in Halifax at the last second and left us with only three and short on time. So we abandoned and sailed south postponing the trip until 2019. No other issues, just short on time and one person who let us down.

As of now, all things seem to be turning out for the best. It now makes more sense for us to be heading south in the 62 towards the Caribbean instead of east to the Mediterranean. Presently, with the 53 based in Italy, we can enjoy both cruising grounds each year offering charter clients two very different locations/experiences, and possibly head west through the Panama Canal into the South Pacific in a few years on the 62.

Re: Grenada Based Cruising Season

Idle curiosity on my part. Associated with silly idea. Of buying a boat.
Is it possible to get year round berth and hurricane spot for a 40fter in Grenada or nearby islands. At reasonable cost.
How easy is it to get flights to and from Grenada?

Although Barbados is a slug into the wind, what about that for Hurricanes and berths and cost?
