Green Turtle Cay Channel

For those that might not know the channel into White Sound was dredged late this year and the new MLW depth is 7ft.

Over the years I've seen a number of boats stranded right at the entrance to Green Turtle. Last year on full moon low tide I hit bottom right in middle of channel and damaged prop and had to send back to states for repair. I'm real glad.

Could have picked a worse place. At least you had abaco yacht services to haul you and pineapples to hang out at while you waited for parts.

I also ran over the bar a few years ago but with a full keel and protected prop I managed to push on through.....

thanks for the information about the dredging. Is there room to anchor or is it all (rental?)moorings?

Re: Green Turtle Cay Channel

plenty of room to anchor - don't remember seeing mooring balls in white sound this summer. but holding can be iffy. there were a bunch of us there for regatta time in abaco last july when a big blow came through. several boats dragged, some pretty far. i didn't budge. don't want to start an anchor war, but i was on a manson supreme with all chain....

Of course you were.

Thanks for the update, I have stopped in last week when I passed by... Might just hang out here in the Abacos this year so I will get the chance again.

Re: Green Turtle Cay Channel

Yes to both anchoring and moorings in White Sound, Green Turtle Club has also added some deep draft slips. Green Turtle Club and Bluff House are also doing dock and dine specials where you can eat or drink whatever your dockage amounts to. Black sound is moorings as the deep grass makes for iffy anchoring. Mone on over!

Re: Green Turtle Cay Channel

Made it into Black Sound GTC a few weeks ago at dead low with 5 ft draft. I am sure I made a groove in the sand.

I ran aground there back in 1981 on a charter Morgan OI 41. It took someone in the dingy with the main halyard, pulling the boat over on it's side, and me at the engine controls to free her off the bottom.
